You can simply connect the charger to the engine battery and charge a battery bank whilst driving along (However please ensure your alternative can sustain it). You can use this charger to charge batteries up to 14.4/14.8V and banks upto around 150 Amp Hours. The charger will not let the primary charing system or battery sit below 13-14v i.e. within its limits and treats it as a higher priority which then feeds the battery bank you wish to charge as a lower priority.
